Green Tara is a Tibetan depiction of important feminine qualities: beauty, grace, compassion, nurturing. She is said to protect us from fear and embodies enlightened action. She is depicted in thangkas (scroll-like Tibetan paintings like the one shown here) with one foot down, ready to step into the world to relieve suffering.
At a recent retreat our teacher commented on seeing this thangka, which has 365 Green Taras, that he could imagine a Tara on every cell of his body, guiding him to enlightened action. Isn’t that an inspiring image?
